For months, there was quiet buzz in Tamil film world. Everyone was talking about one name again and again: Vijay and his upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’. Fans were expecting grand release, big theatrical celebration. But behind the excitement, journey of this film has turned into messy and stressful ride. From shifting release timelines to major online leak and collapsing OTT negotiations, ‘Jana Nayagan’ has now become case of unexpected setbacks in every direction.

It was supposed to be a smooth blockbuster rollout but has instead turned into a financial and legal struggle for the makers, KVN Productions LLP. Reports now suggest the film has suffered a huge loss of nearly ₹70 crore, mainly after the leak shook the entire business structure of the project.

When ‘Jana Nayagan’ was first announced, expectations were sky high. Vijay’s massive fan following alone was enough to push the film into the “must-watch” category.

But things did not go as planned. The film kept facing delays, especially because of pending censor clearance issues.

Even before the film could lock a final release date, discussions around its OTT deal had already started. The makers were trying to secure a strong digital partnership to recover a large part of the production cost.

The big OTT deal that collapsed after the leak

Before any trouble began, ‘Jana Nayagan’ had reportedly struck a massive digital deal. According to reports from Track Tollywood, Prime Video had acquired the OTT rights for a staggering ₹120 crore.

However, this deal did not last.

Once the film’s content leaked online, the entire situation changed. Reports suggest that Prime Video decided to withdraw from the agreement.

For a project of this scale, losing a ₹120 crore OTT agreement is a major setback.

New OTT price drop and the changing release plan

After the collapse of the earlier deal, KVN Productions tried to recover by approaching another digital platform. But the response this time was far less encouraging. Reports suggest new offer dropped dramatically to around ₹50 crore which is less than half of the original Prime Video deal.

Despite all these setbacks, the team behind ‘Jana Nayagan’ has not stopped planning its release. The film is still preparing for theatrical rollout. After multiple delays, reports suggest that makers are now targeting worldwide theatrical release on May 8, 2026.

Having said that, there is still no official confirmation from production team.
